The philosophy we apply at Biz4Teens is that teenagers should learn how to create a small business by doing it. Learning by doing is the best approach because it allows you to experiment immediately and to check whether you are doing it correctly or not. It is also the best way to remember how you reached success and this makes repeating your success easier and faster.
This video from Tony Robbin explains what is the best way to learn. He makes 3 very good points:
- If you listen to people passively, you will remember only 10% to 15% in a month,
- If you make notes on paper or on a PC, you will retain 50 to 55%, even if you don’t read your notes again,
- If you actively respond, by asking questions and connecting with people, you will retain 80 to 90%.
We consider the same applies to create a small business… if you just listen to someone telling you what to do, you will only retain 10 to 15% and this won’t be enough to get you through. If you listen and take notes, you will retain from 50 to 55% and this might be ok for you to hit some success. But if you actively take part and ask questions while you are doing, this will get you over the 80% threshold. This means that you will have learn much more and will be able to repeat your success.
