The job market is changing…
Professional careers used to start and finish in the same firm. Today, for teenagers, this is mostly a thing of the past. In addition, many entry positions are disappearing. This removes opportunities for young generations to break into their first job… or not?
In fact, it all depends what experiences you have had as a teenager (or a young adult), and how you approach the job market…
At Biz4Teens we expect that in the future it is more your skills and expertise(s) that are going to matter. It will also be a case of how good you are at offering them to others, be it as an employee or as a freelancer.
We also believe that the “side hustle” economy, or “gig” economy as it is also often called, will soon become the norm. It is not bad, nor good… it is more a trend, and perhaps soon a fact. People need to understand this. They need to adapt to it. This will ensure that everybody can still enjoy what they are doing and be successful.
QuidCorner has published a very practical infographic explaining what the “side hustle” economy is and how to make it yours, so you are not lost when it hits.
Their view is that having a side-job brings many advantages:
• it is easy: it is a nice way to leverage a hobby you are passionate about during your spare time. It also brings some additional revenues, in case you decide to get paid for it of course.
• it is enriching: it allows you to learn new skills and develop into new areas. This can range from digital technology and social selling for example, to any other area, in particular manual skills like ancient fabrication techniques that have been forgotten over the ages.
• it is good for your ego: you can build your personal brand and show case a particular expertise in an area where you excel or at least are working hard at to become an expert.
• it can become a real job: it is a smooth way to start an entrepreneurial career, in case your “side hustle” gets some nice traction and things start to click.
We like this side hustle economy, and we have made it our mission to prepare teenagers for it. With our Biz4Teens app, we help teenagers acquire essential enterprising skills so they are prepared for the new job market that is coming.
Following our programme will give them an opportunity to understand and digest the codes and best practices of the new “gig” economy early. They will progress at their rhythm, with much less pressure than if they were adults having to support themselves with their “gig(s)”. They will be able to learn by doing. They will make mistakes along the way, but with little consequences.
We are building a community of enterprising teenagers. Come and join us to learn new skills that will make you more successful in tomorrow’s world.
